Theta Chapter History

In the summer of 2000, then determined young men embarked upon a journey to establish a chapter of Pi Alpha Phi at the University of California, San Diego. The names of these ten distinguished founding fathers were Mr. McGuire Cho, Mr. Alfred Chu, Mr. Matthew Gong, Mr. Phong Hyunh, Mr. Randy Jew, Mr. Nathan Lew, Mr. Dwight Lin, Mr. Minh Ngo, Mr. Gregory Yee, and Mr. Rock Yuen Wong.

During a challenging period of trial and hardship, they were instilled with the spirits and traditions of the fraternity. On August 20, 2000, the shared dream of these ten young men was fulfilled, as they completed their pledgeship and became brothers of Pi Alpha Phi.

In keeping with the aims and purposes of Pi Alpha Phi, the fraternity promotes Asian awareness, community leadership, academic excellence, and brotherhood among its members. It is also the aspiration of UC San Diego Pi Alpha Phi to ensure the growth and enrichment of each individual member in the fraternity. Along with achieving these goals, and with brotherhood as our source of strength, the visions and traditions of Pi Alpha Phi will continue to be embraced at UC San Diego.
